Appt Health unveils refreshed brand website
Healthtech social enterprise Appt Health has launched a new brand identity and website, aiming to offer a clearer view of its mission to modernise preventive healthcare within the NHS.
Founded in 2017 by Hector Smethurst, Appt Health was created in response to challenges observed firsthand in East London GP practices — particularly around delivering preventive care to patients with complex needs. Since then, the company has grown into a trusted digital partner for the NHS, focused on improving access, boosting early intervention, and easing pressure on primary care services.
The refreshed identity — brought to life with the support of creative agency Demandflow, founded by Stephen and Simone Wise — reflects Appt Health’s continued growth and its ambition to make healthcare more equitable and efficient. The updated site highlights who they work with, what they do, and how they’re integrating behavioural science and automation to streamline patient pathways and reduce the burden on NHS teams.
With over seven years of experience at the intersection of health and technology, Appt Health is continuing its mission to deliver smarter, more accessible care.

Attest welcomes ex-Microsoft leader as Senior Software Engineering Manager
Attest, the fast-growing consumer research platform founded by Jeremy King and led by CEO Todd Latham, has appointed Mike Birmingham as its new Senior Software Engineering Manager. With over 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership, Birmingham brings a strong background in team development, project delivery, and technical strategy.
He joins from Microsoft, where he led a nine-person development team, driving improvements in product delivery, analytics, and customer experience. His work included implementing a new Power BI analytics framework that saved $30k annually, halving call enablement time on new products, and retiring insecure systems to reduce risk and save development effort. He also made a mark through his leadership in coaching and DEI, with his team scoring 100% for inclusiveness and manager respect in company-wide surveys.
Before Microsoft, Birmingham spent over a decade at Metaswitch Networks, rising through the ranks from Software Engineer to Engineering Manager. There, he led product quality initiatives that dramatically reduced customer escalations and spearheaded security improvements across the product portfolio.
At Attest, he will be joining the Audience & Account team, helping to scale and evolve the company’s engineering capabilities as it continues rapid growth.
Attest is a leading consumer research platform that puts real-time, trustworthy insights in the hands of businesses worldwide. By combining cutting-edge research technology with human expertise, the platform enables brands to uncover growth opportunities continuously and at global scale — a concept they call “growth without guesswork.”
Recognised by the Financial Times (FT 1000) as one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies and listed in the G2 Best Software Awards and Flexa100, Attest continues to attract top-tier talent to fuel its mission to simplify decision-making for modern brands.
OutSee secures £1.8m funding to advance AI-driven drug target discovery
Cambridge-based applied AI startup OutSee has raised £1.8 million in a funding round led by Ahren Innovation Capital through Empirical Ventures, with co-investors Kadmos Capital Ltd and Panacea Innovation also participating.
OutSee develops Nomaly, an innovative AI platform designed to accelerate genetically validated drug target identification — a crucial step in biotech R&D. Founded by Julian Gough, previously founder and chair of Mogrify, the company leverages over a decade of expertise in computational biology and genetics.
Nomaly’s technology integrates protein domain structures, phenotype ontologies, and advanced statistical clustering to identify genetic outliers without requiring prior hypotheses. This produces actionable and interpretable insights that speed the transition from computational prediction to experimental validation.
The platform particularly addresses a gap in genetically validated targets for rare or poorly characterised diseases, enabling biotech firms to build more reliable, genetically informed drug discovery pipelines beyond common diseases.
With this investment, OutSee joins the Empirical Ventures portfolio, aiming to transform therapeutic development by grounding target discovery in robust genetic data.
ORCHA named among the UK’s most innovative healthtech companies in BusinessCloud’s HealthTech 50
Digital health assessment platform ORCHA has been recognised in BusinessCloud’s HealthTech 50 for 2025, a prestigious ranking that celebrates the UK’s most innovative companies driving change in personal and preventative healthcare.
Founded by Liz Ashall-Payne, a long-time advocate for safe and effective digital health, ORCHA (the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps) is best known for its independent, evidence-based app reviews and its work building the infrastructure required to safely integrate digital tools into health and care settings. The platform supports clinicians, commissioners, and patients alike by identifying which digital health products meet high standards of safety, security, and clinical effectiveness.
ORCHA’s impact spans both the public and private sectors — from helping NHS organisations roll out vetted digital tools to guiding international governments and health systems on safe digital health implementation. Its technology and frameworks are used in over a dozen countries and by thousands of professionals looking to navigate the increasingly complex digital health landscape.
At a time when digital solutions are playing a bigger role in care delivery, ORCHA’s focus on quality assurance, regulation readiness, and health equity has made it a key player in shaping responsible innovation in the sector.
Commenting on the recognition, Ashall-Payne said she was “humbled and excited” to see ORCHA shortlisted, adding: “It’s an honour to be considered alongside so many incredible organisations working to transform healthcare. If you believe in the work we’re doing to improve digital health, we’d be so grateful for your support.”
