Principal Front End Developer

We’re working with one of the UK’s most recognisable tech-driven organisations – a true digital leader with a large-scale platform. With a growing product and engineering function based in Manchester, they’re looking to bring in a Principal Frontend Developer to help shape the future of their web architecture and lead on the most complex frontend challenges.

Manchester (Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite)

You’ll play a strategic and hands-on role in defining and evolving the frontend direction across multiple squads. From architecting scalable, modern solutions to mentoring engineers and influencing technical vision, this is a rare opportunity to make a genuine impact within a company that’s constantly pushing forward.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading frontend engineering efforts across multiple product teams
• Architecting and delivering scalable, performant web applications using React and related technologies
• Setting coding standards and promoting best practices across the wider frontend community
• Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and QA to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery
• Supporting the growth and development of engineers through mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance
• Driving continuous improvement in frontend tooling, processes, and architecture
• Contributing to wider tech strategy conversations and helping shape the long-term direction of the platform

Tech Environment Includes:

React, Node.js, HTML/CSS, WebSockets, Redis, messaging APIs, and a wide range of integrations with internal and external systems.

What we’re looking for:

• Extensive experience with modern JavaScript and React in large-scale, high-traffic environments
• Deep knowledge of performance optimisation, caching strategies, and web scalability
• Strong understanding of software architecture, patterns, and principles
• Experience with real-time data flows (e.g., WebSockets), distributed systems, and frontend/backend interactions
• A passion for high-quality code and a track record of driving engineering excellence
• Leadership skills – someone who leads by example, supports others, and challenges the norm when needed
• Awareness of deployment strategies and modern CI/CD approaches
