Case Study: Building EVRI's In-House Automation Dream Team

‎ This case study explores the successful recruitment journey of building an in-house automation dream team for EVRI, the leading courier firm across the UK.

Managed entirely by myself Ashley Loofe, I have a firm background in data, product, AI and automation with tangible results of the latter seen directly through this case study. When presented with the challenge, I operated as the lead recruiter for the project and played a key role in building EVRI's automation team from the ground up. This ultimately led to a significant improvement in their operational efficiency, producing results that have had a lasting impact both then and now!

Chris Gatrell: Principal Intelligent Automation Manager

"Honestly the best person to recruit with...you recruited more than half the automation army right there"

Challenge:

Noticing a need for Automation across their business, In June EVRI announced they where all in and investing a dedicated budget of £1 million in a new AI and automation strategy. This initiative aimed to streamline operations and bolster security throughout their parcel delivery network.

Initially, they relied on a third-party vendor to get things started but being an ambitious business, the long-term goal was always to recruit an "Automation Centre of Excellence" to allow them to move at pace.

Recognising the potential benefits of having their own in-house expertise, Evri made the strategic decision to build their own automation team...

…Which is where I came in…

“For the excellence team, EVRI has recruited top talent, including architects, developers and business-change personnel, to ensure it has the right people at the heart of its transformational work”

Solution:

Building the Foundation:

Having been recommended to Chris, the Head of Automation based on my previous work with EVRI, I was able to use my in-depth knowledge of the automation recruitment market to quickly fill the initial trial roles given.

Timeline? - The Programme Manager role was briefed on Monday, filled by Friday, with Dale starting the following week.

Efficiency mixed with outstanding results.

With the initial Programme Manager onboarded and the team sold on how quickly and effectively I can work, the team building process quickly expanded to include recruiting the rest of the team including noteworthy hires of:

4 x Developers: Skilled in automation technologies (UIPath & power automate) to execute the team's vision.

Project Managers: Providing leadership and direction to ensure project success

And many more!

Having recruited more than half the team from the ground up, it’s been great to see the difference an in-house team has had on EVRI's operations, with impressive outcomes from day one:

Results:

A Team That Delivers: Evri’s internal team have quickly established themselves by adding value through delivery of some key priorities

Enhanced Operational Efficiency: Successful implementation of automation projects led to measurable improvements in EVRI's operational efficiency within a short timeframe.

Better Quality Control: With direct control over the processes and close monitoring, the quality of work has improved markedly. The internal team has maintained stringent quality standards, ensuring that deliverables meet and often exceed expectations.

Overall, the shift to an in-house team and the focus on automation have not only boosted performance and efficiency but also laid a strong foundation for sustained growth.

This journey all began with that initial first hire and I’m happy to have been able to deliver tangible results through recruiting the right talent that are still being felt today.

As a recruiter, I work with businesses like EVRI to build high-performing automation teams that can transform business operations.
